Professional Therapy for Individuals & Couples
“I have learned now that while those who speak about one’s miseries usually hurt, those who keep silence hurt more.” - C.S. Lewis
Are you wondering if professional therapy might help you? Studies have shown that it has been proven effective in treating stress, anxiety, depression, interpersonal conflict and other challenges. In my practice, I create a warm and caring environment where we can work together toward emotional and psychological health.
My name is Elizabeth James. I work with individuals and couples. Please contact me for a free consultation or to ask any questions you may have about my approach to therapy.
As a professional therapist, I have come to understand that the relationship between client and therapist is one of the most important factors that contributes to success in reaching a client's goals. That is why I take the time to really understand each person and couple that I meet and to build a strong therapeutic relationship with each client and couple.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist. I have a Masters degree in clinical counselling and specialized training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Trauma-informed approaches.
I have worked with people experiencing a wide range of challenges including grief and loss, couples conflict, mood and anxiety disorders (with a special focus on postpartum depression), trauma, everyday stress, parenting struggles, life transitions and concerns related to self-worth. I also specialize in helping couples deepen their emotional connection and resolve conflict.
I use a number of different techniques that incorporate an understanding of how challenging events from our past impact us today as well as how the relationships in our formative years have shaped our thought patterns, behaviours and ability to regulate our emotions. My approach is holistic--looking at emotions, cognitions, behaviours, core beliefs, family of origin and faith/spirituality.
